Sail for Cancer Research "BarbeCURE" Raft-Up

10 March 2019

BarbeCURE has once again served up a great result for Cure Cancer Australia!

At this year’s Annual Charity event it was exciting to see the support of many more Club Members, even if they could not attend, and for those who did, it was another Club history-making moment with twelve boats rafted up in America Bay near the Club’s south eastern moorings.

Best dressed boat and crew went to Safari (Jonathan and Joann Upton) and most fund-raised boat went to our special guests from Twin Bridges Cruising Club Xscape (Bruce and Sue Carlson).

Cure Cancer was represented on the day by the Chairman, Philip Corne; Researcher Mark Pinese and staff members, Sarah and Emma. They took the opportunity to move from boat to boat bringing a face to face encounter with the organisation.

After three successful auction bids and this year’s highest bid for the BHCC Perpetual Fundraising Trophy Prop, together with many happy raffle prize winners and generous donations, the BHCC Committee is pleased to announce that the event raised just under $29,000.

At April’s meeting, it was agreed that surplus monies held in the Club’s Charities Account would be added to officially hand over to Cure Cancer Australia, on Tuesday 7 May 2019, an amount of $30,000 – 600 hours of research!
