Please join us at Empire Marina for an informal family friendly session to share boating knowledge and experience. Here is your chance to ask any questions about your boat or boating in general, or just share some of your ideas and experiences on the water.

We have three hosts, and will be covering tips for boat handling, how to stay safe on the water and basic boat knowledge. The focus will be on practical skills and discussion, sharing information and ideas, so please come with any questions or suggestions. The day commences with a briefing followed by three 40-minute Information Sessions taking place in small groups on members' boats, followed by lunch.
INFORMATION SESSIONS:
Boat handling
- theory and practice
- how to enter and leave a berth
- lines, ropes - how to tie up, basic knots, throwing a line
- anchoring
Boat safety
- boating 'rules of the road' and collision avoidance
- startup checklist, safety equipment, passage planning and boating safety
- weather and tides
- what to do if things go wrong, Marine Rescue, radio refresher
Know your boat
- basic marine engineering
- boat systems (drive, electrical, communications, water) and practical maintenance
- navigation, pilotage and electronic aids
- guide to local waters - Pittwater, Hawkesbury, Sydney
