Annual Raft Up Weekend 2020
8-10 November 2020
Our annual Raft Up was again held across three BHCC mooring in the lovely, sheltered America bay.

Our 2020 raft up was special in the fact that we had a great mix of long-time members including Ron and Angela McAlpine and Graham and Jenny Turley right through to our brand-new members Roz and Tony Pollock. Peter and Jane Stewart arrived up from the harbour for their annual Bobbin Head summer stay just in time and also along for the weekend were Scott and Vicki Leavers, Commodore Bruce and Ngaire Callaghan, Martin, Heather and Rachel Cass, Jonathan and Joann Upton, Ron and Marcia Geeky, Vice Commodore Grant, Louise, Rachel and Andrew Cunningham and joining for lunch it was fantastic to see Peter and Barb Carmody.

The weather forecast was looking rather average with 25 knot southerly winds and cool temperatures forecast however the decision was made to proceed in the shelter of America Bay.

Boats settled in from late in the week and officially kicked off with the traditional Friday night sausage sizzle. BBQ’s were fired up and a couple of kg of sausages (from our friends at Exclusive Meats, North Turrumurra) and onions were cooked to perfection before being served with a choice of “Three Threes” sauces (thanks Ron) and a selection of salads.

We rose Saturday to be greeted with clear sky and sunshine before the clouds moved in. At midday the crews boarded two boats for the trip upstream to Cottage Point Kiosk where Trent and his team served up a delicious lunch including burgers, fish curry and mussels. Luckily, we were sheltered from the fresh southerly breeze as members caught up with each other.

It was then back to the raft up for a trivia quiz and light dinner. Sunday was a relaxing slow start before some amazing looking morning tea with various cakes, biscuits, and fruit for the Commodores Morning Tea. Jane, Grant and Andrew then decided to work off some of these calories and climbed to the top of the America Bay waterfall to enjoy the views up the bay and down to the BHCC boats below.

Unfortunately, some members had to depart Sunday afternoon as work and school called, while others enjoyed another lovey night on the water with much laughter and fun (from what I heard).

The weekend was all about sharing stories and building friendships with fellow members. Thank you to all that made it along and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with you.
