Club Members' Day

6 May 2018

As a new member to the BHCC, the Members Day on the 6th May presented a great opportunity to meet with other members, as well as learning some valuable tips on the handling and maintenance of our boats.

The day kicked off with a casual mingling in the Empire lounge whilst being introduced to other members and sharing boatie stories over a coffee. Around 25 members attended the day with a great mix of experienced skippers sharing their knowledge with the newer members.

Three key topics of interest were tackled on the day,  commencing  with  the  theory  of effective

anchoring, followed by a practical demonstration by Scott Andresson on his boat "Five Star".

The second area of interest was a great discussion by Craig from MCM Marine on the importance of maintaining batteries, the virtues of different types of batteries and key points relating to the electrical systems on our boats. This was followed by a practical demonstration by Murray from Sydney Marine Detailing on maintaining everything from gelcoat and teak decking to clears and cushions. Murray also shared a few secrets of the trade like the fantastic magic eraser!

The day concluded with a gathering for lunch in the café and an opportunity to continue the exchange of ideas and make new friends.

The weather was perfect and everyone had a great day, and personally as a new member, it reinforced to me the value of joining the club, and the wealth of information and experience readily available to me from other seasoned boaties who were more than willing to share their knowledge and welcome me into the fraternity.
