WHO’S LEADING THE WAY?

Thanks to Greg Rowe for guiding us up there last year AND has put his hand up to say “let’s do it again”. Yes, it’s very close to the Lake Macquarie trip on the 25th to the 28th January but if you can’t do one you might be able to do the other. Some are planning to do both and link them together for two weeks of boating.

WHERE CAN YOU BERTH YOUR BOAT?

We head out of Bobbin Head around 8.00 am on Friday 1st February bound for Port Stephens where each Skipper takes responsibility to pre-book berthing accommodation to head to once we reach our destination. Last year the three boats that travelled up and the fourth joining us from their adventures in the Myall Lakes all stayed at the Anchorage Marina at Corlette anchoragemarina.com.au.

There are two other marinas that you may choose to stay:

D’ALBORA Marina at Shoal Bay https://dalboramarinas.com.au/marinas/nelson-bay/

Soldiers Point Marina http://www.soldiersptmarina.com.au/

Unlike our Lake Macquarie trip, which has no fixed address because we are anchoring and rafting up, for Port Stephens most, if not all, of us will be selecting one of the Marinas listed above. Greg Rowe from White Knight is already booked into the Anchorage however if you are an Empire Marina Bobbin Head client you may be able to score a week exchange at the Soldiers Point Marina under the E.C.L.A.T club. www.eclatclub.com.au. Six of our club boats used this facility in Sydney, when we travelled to Vivid last year for the June long weekend and did not have to pay any marina fees for berths at Gladesville Bridge Marina.

WHAT TO DO?

Port Stephens trip is more about your own time to explore as you wish – a free and easy week to swim, fish and sleep. You may choose to travel to a great beach to swim, explore the beautiful Port Stephens waterway or sneak up to Tea Gardens for a quite breakfast or lunch. We will plan a one-day trip out to Broughton Island, which is about a further 30-minute trip north, once outside the heads. Also, join up at a restaurant in Shoal Bay for dinner on one or two evenings to share our adventures and get to know club members better. Great opportunity to broaden your boating experience or to revisit a special place that already holds many memories.

If you have any further questions please email me at bruce@ceilingsbydesign.com.au.

If you plan to do the Australia Day weekend on Lake Macquarie and then go straight onto Port Stephens, we may stay an extra couple of nights at Lake Macquarie or we could head to Newcastle for 2 or 3 nights in between. That is a further discussion when we determine who is involved.
