We have enjoyed some great fun Australia Day celebrations over the years in locations from Lake Macquarie to Port Hacking. This year we are staying close to home in the magnificent Refuge and America Bay.
Our BHCC fleet will gather with boats joining, be it for 3 days or 3 hours, from Friday 27 January. (If arriving on Saturday, we would ask that you arrive before 8am if rafting with the fleet). Saturday morning, we’ll hoist the Aussie flags on the beach mud flats in Refuge and fire up the BBQ’s for Australia Day brunch with sausages, salad, bread and a few drinks supplied by the club.
Our annual beach cricket match with our friends from Twin Bridges Cruising Club will get underway as the tide drops at about 9:00am. This is a fun and unique match where the condition of the mud pitch will not be assessed with a key, but by a yabby pump being pushed into the surface. The wicket is a mixture of sand and mud, peppered with sting ray and yabby holes and the outfield comprises rocks, puddles and oyster shells. The rising tide will slowly invade our field as the afternoon wears on so the stumps are the floatable variety.
Following our cricket victory, it will be back to the boats for afternoon drinks, dinner and our annual BHCC Australia Day Pavlova competition judging. Get creative with your Pavlova as the Commodore can be a tough marker.
We look forward to seeing you over the weekend, please RSVP as soon as you can to assist with catering.
